This was painted during the “2018 North Douglas County Fair’s Art Car and Fire Fest” which was my first foray into the realm of art shows. It was an certainly not within my comport zone and being able to break out the paints certainly helped my nerves a bit!
Painting outside in 90+ degree temps presents certain challenges not present under studio settings. The most obvious of those being keeping the paper moist for wet-in-wet painting! I was happy to have a little spray bottle to help keep water on the paper. This was a dance of moisture and pigment that I don’t believe I would have been comfortable with a few months ago. Spending time to work with clouds has helped in achieving a more fluid painting style and mindset.
